Fashion sketch for pattern mixing

Today’s illustration:
hooded puffer coat Burberry Brit (or $ Jessica Simpson and $$$ Bergdorf Goodman), navy school blazer Seoul night market (or $ Old Navy and $$$ Revolve), woven dot shirt J.Crew (or $ Macy’s or Net-a-Porter), striped belt with leather buckle A&F (or $ Amazon and $$$ Tory Burch), gathered striped skirt Who.A.U. (or asos and $$$ Lacoste), contrast trim leather tote Seoul night market (or $ Macy’s and $$$ yoox), suede lace up ankle booties Steve Madden at 6pm (or $ Modcloth)

I love waking up and seeing the sunrise over the city.  Vibrant reds and oranges peek around the buildings and reflect on the Hudson.  But lately, I get treated to a double color show.  Right outside my window I see the leaves changing colors; fall is in full effect! That means buildings everywhere are cranking up the heat.  I like to remedy this with layers.

My coat-over-blazer combo keeps me warm outside in the cold, but then comfy in the over-heated office.  Suede booties push this skirt into autumn and I will probably repeat this outfit later in the season with tights.  (Tights bring skirts and dresses through winter, yay!)

It’s tempting to dress in all dark colors now that it’s cooler weather, but I try to avoid it.  This fun pattern mix is a great way to keep bold colors alive and give those leaves some competition.  For me, the subtle neutral dots don’t compete with the bright bold skirt and instead compliment each other.  Hooray for fall; don’t you just love layering?
